HILARY DAVIES Hilary was born Sunday, March 24, 1918 at Shrewsbury, England. Hilary served with the Cheshire Yeomanry during the Second World War in North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. He was promoted to Acting Major at the end of his service. He was awarded the Military Cross for action in Europe. Hilary immigrated to Canada in 1958 to start a new life. Hilary settled in The Pas, working for the Clearwater Lake Sanitarium Board as Hospital Administrator. During this time he built his cottage at Jackfish Creek at Clearwater Lake, and had spent his summers there ever since. When the Clearwater Lake Sanitarium was closed, he transferred to Churchill to run their hospital. In 1974, Hilary was diagnosed with colon cancer; he had surgery and returned to The Pas to retire. He spent his summers fishing with his old hospital friends on Clearwater Lake. He was an active member of the Legion for many years and became very involved with the Cancer Society. Hilary is survived by his brother Hugh of Chester, England; sister-in-law Joan of Chester, England; nephew Ian of Chester, England; nephew Mac and family of Thunder Bay, ON; his "Canadian Family" of Winnipeg; cousin Riss Bagnall, Andrew and Gail Bagnall, Frank and Colleen Bagnall. A Service of Remembrance was held Monday, February 26, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas, with Ven. Grahme Spear presiding. Organist was Yvette Gaudet. Tributes for Hilarys life were given by Andrew Bagnall and Donna Walker. Legion Honor Guard were Claude Joyal, Joe Cloutier, Hubert Libbrecht, Ove Larsen, Jack Ashley Sr., Doug Goldstrand Sr. The Legion Tribute was done by Comrade Ove Larsen. The presentation of medals was made by Jack Ashely to Mac Davies. If friends so desire, donations in Hilarys memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, Box 478, The Pas, MB R9A 1K6; or to The Pas Health Complex Foundation Memorial Fund, Box 240, The Pas, MB R9A 1K4. Many thanks to all of Hilarys old friends, the "Walkers", "Johnsons", "Heaps", and "Fishers".
