GEORGE KONTZAMANIS September 3, 1949 - March 3, 2001 After a difficult battle with cancer, George, aged 51 years, peacefully passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, March 3, 2001. George was predeceased by his mother Maria. He will be missed by his wife Phyllis; children, Maria, Michael, Vicky; his father Michael and siblings, Demetrios (Helen), Nick (Vivian) and Koula (George) and numerous nieces and nephews. George was born in Chios, Greece and later immigrated to Winnipeg where he established and operated Papa Georgess Restaurant. George was a proud member of Winnipegs Greek Community and dedicated his time to the Church Board over several terms. He also spent time outdoors with beloved friends hunting in the fall season and became a loyal and loved member at the Winnipeg Trap & Skeet Club. Most importantly George was dedicated to raising his three children who he adored and was a proud father as he was a friend. George opened his arms and heart to all who walked into his life and his greetings and smile will be deeply missed. Prayers will be held on Tuesday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, with coffee to follow in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. also in the Church with Rev. Dimitrios Gianiou and Rev. Anthony Mavromaras officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery with a reception to follow in the church. Pallbearers will be Steve Perdikis, Nikos Stratopoulos, John Scouras, Jim Wilder, George Tsouras, and Andreas Lekatsas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyriakos Bilias and Demetrios Scouras. A special thanks is extended to the doctors and staff at he Grace Hospital for all their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB., R3E 0V9, in memory of George. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
