Ray was born May 27, 1922 in Pinawa, Manitoba and was raised in the Pinawa and Seven Sisters Falls area prior to moving to Winnipeg. He was the eldest of seven children. Ray leaves to mourn his children, Glenn (Kathie), Audrey Hilton, Cindy Ayotte (Rolly) and Diane Johnson (Enoch) six grandchildren, Dan (Heather), Lehala, Colin, Cherice, Dana and Garrett; brothers, Allen (Winnie) of Lac Du Bonnet, George (Doreen) of Rainer, Oregon, Brian (Muriel) of Winnipeg and sister Marge of Richmond, BC. He was predeceased by his wife Betty; his parents; his brother Donald and sister Patricia. Ray as a young man served in the Canadian Air Force in the Second World War. After the War he was employed by Manitoba Hydro from where he retired after forty-two years in 1981. He loved all sports, especially hockey, skiing, tennis and in later years it was curling. He was quite the Outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He was president of the Lansdown Game and Fish Assoc. for many years. He had a passion for nature and this showed in his interests in gardening and yard work around his home. Ray always had a great love for animals and they were always welcome at his home. Ray was also quite a handy man, who helped build his own home in 1948 and had to rebuild it in 1950 after the flood as well as the many projects he did around his home. Ray had many great qualities. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humour. He loved to laugh. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway with the Rev. Peter Douglas officiating. Interment will be in St. Vital Cemetery.
