Date of Passing: Mar 04, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHRYN ZURBA (nee IHNAT) It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of my dear mother Kathryn Zurba, age 76 years, at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, March 4, 2001, after a courageous battle with heart disease, with her son and family by her side. Kathryn leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing, her devoted and loving son Walter Jr.; sister Jennie (Al) Sankow; sisters-in-law, Steffie Zurba, Olga Smerek; nieces, Catherine Keating, Jennie (Jim) Malloy, Barbara Domenco; nephews, Allan Sankow, Ron (Donna) Zurba, Gary (Betty) Smerek, Robert Fraser and their families as well as many relatives and friends. Kathryn was predeceased by her loving husband Walter in 1998; her father William in 1957 and her mother Mary in 1977. Kathryn was born in Winnipeg on March 23, 1924. She attended Margaret Scott, Faraday and Issac Newton Schools. Early in her life she worked at Safeway, Eatons and lastly for Ready Foods as a Lab Tech until her retirement. We will miss Kathryns caring and unselfish devotion to her family whom she loved with all her heart, her love of God and genuine caring for all people. She encouraged loved ones to be successful in life and to do good things for others. She frequently sacrificed her own gratification to devote all her time to her family. Although she had no grandchildren of her own, she took great interest in the lives and accomplishments of others in her family. Kathryn had a keen interest in international politics, current events, was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies, comedy shows and figure skating. She loved to shop, decorate and enjoyed fine dining and music. She also loved dogs and small animals. The family wishes to thank Dr. A. Kimelman for his compassionate care and to the staff of the St. Boniface ICU and Emergency Department for their efforts. Donations in Kathryns memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Pallbearers will be Allan Sankow, Ron Zurba, Robert Domenco, Richard Domenco, Ryan Fraser and Jim Malloy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave., with Fr. Gregory Oucharyk and Rev. Deacon Nick Kohuch officiating. Interment in Garden of Prayer, Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVED ME When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess, How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now its time I travelled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. Its only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on, So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cant see me or touch me, Ill be near, And if you listen with your heart, youll hear, All of my love around you soft and clear, And then when you must come this way alone, Ill greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home."
