VICTOR PAUL THIESSEN We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Victor Paul Thiessen, aged 54, on Monday, March 5, 2001 at the Tiger Hills Health Center in Treherne, MB. Vic will be missed by his wife Anne Hamilton and their daughter Jen (Jennifer) Thiessen; as well as by his sons, Michael of Glenboro and Steven of Saskatoon and their mother Gladys Campbell of Glenboro; by brothers, Jim (Lorna) of Edmonton and Jonathan (Sharon) of Kandern, Germany and their children, Joshua and Rebekah of Edmonton; by Annes parents, Jack and Isabel Hamilton; her brother David (Lisa) and their children, Ian and Devin, all of Brandon. Vic was predeceased by his father Jacob J. (1974), and his mother Helen (February 15, 2001). Vic was born in Herbert, SK on October 2, 1946. He was a loving and good husband, father, brother, uncle and son. Vic was a dedicated educator and loved learning. He attended Teachers College in Saskatoon and his teaching career spanned over 30 years. After teaching in small towns in southern Saskatchewan, he attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon while working at Saskatoon Federated Co-op. He taught in Churchill in northern Manitoba from 1972 to 1975, and in Baldur in southwestern Manitoba from 1975 (including a teaching exchange from Baldur to England in 1983-84), until he transferred to Treherne Collegiate Institute in 1994. Vics interests were varied; he loved reading, travelling, photography, anthropology, coaching baseball and country living. Vic served on the Leadership Team for the provincial Manitoba Teachers Society, as well as on the local MTS executive of the Prairie Spirit School Division (formerly Tiger Hills). For numerous summers, Vic was a team leader and co-tutor with OCOD (Organization for Cooperation in Overseas Development) in the Caribbean and he was vice chairperson of the Board of Directors. Vic was a founding member and treasurer of MASTARS (Manitoba Association of Secondary Teachers of At-Risk Students). The memorial service will be held at the Miami Community Center in Miami, MB on Saturday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Bob Gilbert of the Miami United Church officiating. Interment will be in Brandon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Miami United Church, Box 164, Miami, MB R0G 1H0, or to a charity of ones choice.
