Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENE CECELIA SHUMILAK (1919 - 2001) It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Helene, on March 8, 2001, at the Seven Oaks hospital, at the age of 82 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Edward; son Nelson (Lita) daughters, Charlotte (Arthur) and Grace (Ian) grand-daughters, Nicole and Ashley; sister Caroline; brother Kasmir and numerous nieces and nephews. Helene was born and raised in Ladywood, Manitoba. After she married, she settled in Cloverleaf, where she was very busy working outside the home, raising a family, and running a farm. At the age of 49 she realized a life long dream and attended Red River College, where she obtained her LPN license in Nursing. Upon graduation, she accepted a position at the King Edward Hospital, where she worked till her retirement. These were the happiest years of her life, administering to the sick and elderly. During this time she was one of the founding members of the Anti Smoking Organization GASP. She continued to serve this cause throughout her life. Helene enjoyed crocheting, knitting and crafts - especially making her Christmas Angels. A source of pride and joy were her two granddaughters, with whom she shared many happy hours. She spent the last years of her life volunteering at the Fred Douglas Lodge, where she was greatly loved, admired and appreciated by the participants and staff alike. The family wish to thank the nursing staff in the ICU, Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion during her final hours. Prayers will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Fred Douglas Lodge Chapel, 1275 Burrows Avenue with Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Beausejour, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helenes memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. We did not know that morning, What sorrow the day would bring. The bitter grief, the shock severe, To part with one we loved so dear. You bid no one a last farewell, No chance to say goodbye. You were gone Mom, before we knew it, And God only knows why. We pray that when you left us, That you knew how much we cared. Today, tomorrow, our whole lives through, We will always love and cherish memories of you. We hold you close within our hearts, And there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives, Until we meet again. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
