ERNEST OTTO ENS Peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 8, 2001, at the Health Sciences Centre, aged 63 years, of Teulon, MB. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Jean; his children, Maudy, Thomas (Melinda), and Christian (Dijana) his grandchildren, Jillian, Jackson, Nikki, and Jason; his brothers, Gerhard (Anni), Frank (Betty), Henry (Sarah), Abe (Helen), Adolf (Anna), Werner (Marlene), and Armin (Caroline) his sisters, Helen, and Mary Anne (Frank) Zacharias; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father G.G.H. Ens, his mother Helena (Sawatzky) Ens, his sister Margaret (Ens) Penner. Ernie was born on March 16, 1937, in Reinland, MB. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Reinland. In 1961, he married Jean Laughlin, and in 1966 they moved to Teulon where he was employed as a manpower worker, in various positions for the Manitoba Department of Labour, Charisons Turkey Hatchery, and the Department of Indian Affairs. During the last ten years of his career, Ernie was a pediatric Social Worker, whose motto was "children first". He coached baseball when his kids played, and umped kids ball for years. He was a Charter Member of the Teulon Golf & Country club, and served on the Board of the Teulon Residences for 30 years. He had great faith in young people and was very encouraging and generous to all. He was especially doting to his grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Teulon, MB, with Pastor Barry Rasmussen officiating. The family sincerely thanks the staffs of GH4, GA4, and the Pink Desk at the Health Sciences Centre for their care of Ernie and consideration for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Canadian Liver Foundation. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon, in charge of arrangements.
