Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN MARGARET GAULD Helen Margaret Gauld passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2001, at Hillcrest Place in Brandon. Helen will be dearly missed by her twin son and daughter, Lindsay Gauld and his wife Lynne of Winnipeg, and Lois Fjeldsted and her husband Donald of Brandon and her grandson Erik Fjeldsted, of Montreal. Also surviving are her brother Lindsay McDougall and wife Fran of Florida and her brother-in-law Gordon Gauld and wife Muriel of Kelowna, BC. Aunt Helen also leaves nephews and nieces to mourn her passing. Helen was predeceased by her husband and life partner Stuart Gauld, and by her sister and best friend Jean Bentham. Helen was born on the family farm near Portage la Prairie in 1914, the eldest daughter of Lindsay and Minnie McDougall. She spent her early years and was educated in Portage. In 1939 Helen married Stuart Gauld and they were a wonderful team for over 50 years until Stus passing in 1990. Helen and Stu raised their family in Winnipeg and were amazing parents, actively involved in every facet of their childrens lives. Helens commitment was recognized by presentations of Life Memberships in both Silver Heights Community Club and the Winnipeg Speed Skating Club. Helen was an accomplished skater herself. She loved to skate on her long blades and did so well into her 70s. Helen was an avid reader and gardener and every spring now will bring back happy memories of Mom in the garden. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Manitoba Teachers Society. Upon retirement Helen and Stu moved permanently to their island home at Dogtooth Lake, near Kenora, ON, where they spent many happy years. Winters were enjoyed in Weslaco, Texas, and special friendships were formed during that time. Helens gentle and always gracious manner, her lovely smile and winning personality earned her many close friends throughout her life. She was an independent, lively, accomplished lady with a warm and caring heart. Helen was a devoted mother, encouraging and enthusiastically supporting her children in everything they undertook to do. She was a wonderful grandmother to Erik whom she adored. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Hillcrest Place and to Dr. Mary Egan for their kindness and compassionate care during Helens final days. We also wish to pay special recognition to Helens faithful friend Donna Messel who cared about her deeply. In remembrance of Helen and in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in her memory to the Alzheimer Society, 437 - 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4A9, in the hope it will help others with this devastating disease. A memorial service and celebration of Helens life will take place in the spring at her beloved Dogtooth Lake, where she would most want to be. Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan, (204) 727-0694.
