Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLYDIA FRIESEN Lydia passed away peacefully at home after a short, dignified struggle with cancer on March 9, 2001 at the age of 84. Lydia is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Arleyta (Ian Lewis) and Tim (Lorene Archdekin) her four beloved granddaughters, Shona, Kirsty, Claire and Sarah all of Calgary; her sisters and brothers, Helen Doerkson, Olga Schulz, John (Anne) Dyck, Peter (Anna) Dyck all of Winnipeg and Herman Dyck of Pembroke ON and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband Arnold predeceased Lydia in January 1976. Lydia was born in Arkadak, Russia on October 5, 1916. She came to Manitoba, Canada as a young girl of 9 and lived in the Winnipeg area as well as Kenora, ON, (1958 to 1965) until moving to Calgary in 1998 to be closer to her granddaughters and watch them grow up. Lydia had a varied career that included teaching in rural and Winnipeg schools, she also worked in a doctors office as well as in the School of Nursing library at St. Boniface Hospital in the years prior to her retirement. She was always an active supporter of her church. Lydia enjoyed music and art and was an accomplished artist. Funeral services will be held in Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter St. on Wednesday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. on Tuesday, March 13 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Interment at La Salle Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
