REVEREND DR. REID E. VIPOND Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital, London, Ont. on Monday, March 12, 2001 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy J. (Harlow) Vipond for almost 62 years. Dearest dad of Mary (Bill Butler, Montreal), Fran (Don Menard, London), Doug (Jane Bowden, Fredericton) and Rob (Gina Feldberg, Toronto). Loving grandfather of Peter and Catherine Butler, David (Catherine) and Beth (Roger) Menard, Nick and Sam Vipond. Great-grandfather of Damien. Son of the late Emerson and Susannah Vipond. Will be dearly missed by his sister Annie Irvine and sister-in-law Edythe Vipond, both of Listowel and Dorothys siblings, Reverend Clifford and Isabel Plant (Stratford) and Ruth Eagles (Markdale) and sister-in-law Ev Harlow (Stratford). Wonderful uncle and cousin to many in a large extended family. Predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Margaret; his brother Jack; Dorothys brother Don and brothers-in-law, Leslie Wightman, John Irvine and Walter Eagles. Dr. Vipond had been a proud minister of the United Church of Canada since his graduation from Queens Theological College and ordination in 1939. After serving pastorates in Lanigan, Sask., Trowbridge, Ont., Amherstburg, Ont. and Winnipeg, Man. he assumed the Senior Ministry at Metropolitan, Edmonton, Alta. (1949-59) Lakeview, Regina, Sask. (1959-63) and Westminster, Winnipeg, Man. (1963-79). In his retirement, he served at St. Johns, Winnipeg, Man. (1980-81) and Metropolitan, London, Ont. (1981-89). Blessed with a keen intellect, an immense love of people and a prodigious memory, Dr. Vipond became a very special minister and friend to many across the country. A memorial service in celebration of Reids life will be held at First-St. Andrews United Church, 350 Queens Avenue at Waterloo Street, London on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment of ashes at Donegal Cemetery, Perth County, Ont. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, 3250 Bloor Street West, Suite 300, Etobicoke, Ont., M8X 2Y4 or to Queens Theological College, Kingston, ont., K7L 3N6 would be appreciated by the family.
