Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN HYDE February 4, 1910 - March 11, 2001 Peacefully, on Sunday, March 11, 2001, our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 91. John leaves to mourn his passing, daughter Kathleen; son Allistair (Sandra) three grandchildren, Tiffany, Troy and Kieran; numerous nieces and nephews and his very special friend Vivian. John was predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Sholdice) parents John and Justina; sisters, Connie, Alvina; stepsister Matilda; brothers, Henry and Bill. John was born in Garson, Man. and moved to Winnipeg as a young man where he was employed by Dominion Motors and McDonald Aircraft. He married Jean Sholdice on June 23, 1932. In 1946, John moved to Cypress River where he built Hydes Garage. There he spent many happy and satisfying days. John was actively involved in the Cypress River community serving as chairman of the school board, board member of the United Church, board member of the Cypress River Credit Union, member of the Masonic Lodge, and a volunteer in sports activities. In 1967, John moved to Brandon where he was employed by Manitoba Highways until his retirement in 1975. John was blessed with a long retirement in which he enjoyed golfing, curling, and bowling. Most of all he enjoyed the many conversations with his friends. In 1996, John took up residence at 165 Donwood where he met many special people and enjoyed their companionship. A special thanks to the staff from the 8th floor, Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and kindness to Dad and for their support to the immediate family. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Donwood Manor, 165 Donwood Dr. on Tuesday (today), March 13 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Laura Friesen officiating. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Cypress River Memorial United Church with Rev. Art Veldhouse officiating. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Johns memory to the Palliative Care Unit, 8th floor, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R2H 9Z9.
