FRANCES ELIZABETH DROHOMERSKI (nee GRESCHUK) Peacefully, on Monday, March 12, 2001, after a long illness, Fran passed away at the Grace Hospital. Fran will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her son Darryl (Toni) several nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and special friends, Pat Bean and Jean Perras. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary and by her brothers, Kasimir, Stanley and William and by her sister-in-law Nellie. Fran was born on April 13, 1925 in Brokenhead, MB and was raised on the family farm. In her twenties, she decided to seek out the bright lights of Winnipeg, where she remained the rest of her life. She held many jobs during this time including her long tenure at Ray-O-Vac. After Darryl was born, she became a wonderful homemaker, a role she truly relished every day of her life. Fran faced many challenges throughout life most notably having an open-heart valve replacement in 1975. This operation gave us an extra 25 years with this wonderful woman and for that we thank Rev. Fr. Joseph Driscoll and the doctors at St. Boniface Hospital. Her last challenge, which she fought hard to overcome, was with the rare disease Dermatomyositis diagnosed in 1999. Fran was very community minded and spent much of her free time volunteering for those less fortunate than her. She was very proud to be involved with Meals on Wheels for 30 years. She also volunteered for the Heart and Stroke Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Christmas Cheer Board,Canadian Diabetes Association, Agape Table, as well as many other community groups. Fran was always willing to help out whether it was organizing a clothing drive or simply supplying some of her home-made goodies to those in need. Her devout Catholic faith was the spiritual foundation of her life and she was an active member of St. John Brebeuf parish and of the CWL for 35 years. Her proudest moments at the church included becoming a Minister of the Eucharist, organizing teas, rummage sales, and catering for various events. Frans fondest times were those spent with her family and friends and she cherished holiday gatherings. Her favourite pastime was cooking. She was famous for her Ukrainian food and her cookie jar was always full. Fran also enjoyed gardening and flowers very much, with her backyard being her special haven. She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, needlepoint, and quilting. Fran had a special place in her heart for all her animals, especially Bam-Bam. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Grace Hospital, Deer Lodge Centre, VON Manitoba, and Home Care for all their care and compassion over the last 16 months. A special thank you to Dr. J.D. McDowell, who cared for her for over 25 years and to Irene Burdz who takes care of all of us. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place (off Lanark St. between Grant Ave. and Corydon Ave). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church with Rev. Fr. Michael Koryluk officiating. Entombment in the chapel mausoleum at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Frans memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Forever in Our Memories CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
