Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MELISSA SUTHERLAND (nee LEE) Passed away at the Tiger Hills Manor, Treherne, MB, on Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the age of 101 years, Mary Melissa Sutherland (nee Lee) of Cypress River, MB. Melissa was predeceased by her husband Bruce in 1984; and by her sisters, Mildred Knight and twin sister Minerva Lee. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Murray and wife Marjorie of Winnipeg; daughter Margaret McLachlan and husband Jack, also of Winnipeg; a sister Selina Sholdice of Cypress River; grandchildren, Ken, Barb, Kathy, Patti, and Bruce, Mary, Brian; eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Melissa was born in 1900 on the Lee farm in Cypress River Valley District to William and Sarah Lee where she was raised and attended college and taught at Centerville, Cypress Valley and Olive schools. In 1924 she married Bruce Sutherland who was an elevator agent for Federal Grain in Holland, MB where they lived for more than 53 years. Melissa spent the past 13 years in the Treherne Manor. Our family sincerely thanks the nurses and care givers for their many acts of continuing kindness and the respect given to her over the years. In Melissas earlier years her life centred around her church, her family and grandchildren, and music. Mother sang in many choirs and sang solos and duets with her sisters. She was a devoted mother and wife and will be remembered and missed for her cheerfulness, always making the best of things, and her many acts of hospitality. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cypress River United Church with Rev. Art Veldhuis and Rev. Jack McLachlan officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot at Glencoe Cemetery.
