MORRIS KOWALCHUK With great sadness the family announces the passing of Morris Kowalchuk of London, Ontario. Morris was born in Oakburn, Manitoba September 17,1930, the youngest son of Anton and Anna (Panchuk) Kowalchuk. He attended Rogers School and Oakburn High School. He was actively involved in CYMK (Ukrainian Orthodox Youth Association) in Oakburn and took an active part in St. Volodymyrs Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. In 1955 Morris attended Teachers College in Winnipeg. His teaching career of over ten years included positions in the Oakburn district, Lynn Lake, Shoal Lake, and Brandon, Manitoba. In 1964 Morris moved to London, Ontario where he worked at Kowalchuk Real Estate, Shortly afterwards he went into the real estate business on his own where he was involved in purchasing, building, and managing rental properties. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in London where he served on the Church Board holding numerous Executive positions. Morris was a respected member of both the Ukrainian and business communities. He was very devout, dedicated to his Church, community, and always willing to help those in need. Morris was exceptionally gentle and kind. He was a generous supporter of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, St. Andrews College in Winnipeg, St. Volodymyrs Church in Oakburn, and numerous charities. Left in deep sorrow to mourn his passing is his dear wife Zoriana; her daughters Irina and Luba Kouchnir; brothers Michael (Olga) of Winnipeg, and Richard (J.C.) of St. Petersburg Florida, brother-in-law Peter Kowal of Winnipeg, and sisters-in-law Pat Kowalchuk of London, and Lorraine Kowalchuk of Toronto. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews; Darlene (Larry) Sherman, Emile (Linda) Kowal, John Kowal, Zane Kowal, Shelley Kowalchuk (Gary Pederson), Michelle (Mykola) Kowalchuk of Winnipeg, Ernest Hyrnyshyn (Else) of Thunder Bay, Nadia (Chris) Calvo of Barefoot Bay Florida, Richard Kowalchuk Jr. of St. Petersburg Florida, Wendy (Les) Toth, Suzanne (Richard) Aylen, Linda Kowalchuk of London, Ken (Elizabeth) Kowalchuk, Michael Kowalchuk, Terry Kowalchuk, and Karen Reid, of Toronto. Morris will be missed by his many friends and distant relatives. Predeceased by his parents, sisters Nancy Kudlowsky of London, Marie Kowal of Winnipeg, brothers Nicholas Kowalchuk of Toronto and John Kowalchuk of Oakburn, Manitoba. Pallbearers will be David Glutek, Victor Pedenko, Peter M. Kondra, Bill Hryckiw, Ken Kowalchuk, and Dean Brown. Memorial Prayers (Panakhyda) will be held at the Lloyd R. Needham Funeral Chapel, 520 Dundas Street, London, Ont., on March 23, at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow. Funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 151 King Edward Avenue, March 24, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend S. Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in London. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Morris Kowalchuk Memorial Capital Foundation Fund at St. Andrews College, 29 Dysart Road, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2M7.
