MICHAEL BOYKO With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Michael Boyko at his home on March 11, 2001 at the age of 87. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 61 years Anne; his daughter Evelyn (George) grandsons, Steven (Donna) of Phoenix and Michael; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughters, Phyllis in 1989 and Irene in 1999. Mike spent most of his working life in the garment industry, being employed by National Cloak and Sterling Cloak. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman. Many an afternoon was spent digging for earthworms with Dad. After retirement he kept fit by swimming regularly at the YMHA where he enjoyed meeting with old friends. Mikes devotion to his family was unfailing. For many years he was Moms caregiver which allowed them to remain together in their own home. A loving and supportive father, he was a pillar of quiet strength and wisdom. To his grandsons he was a respected role model, father figure and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of wonderful stories from his past and treasured memories. The family extends sincere thanks to the many people involved in Mikes care over the years, especially Dr. Vanameyde, Dr Schacter, the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, Monique (VON) and home care. The tide recedes But leaves behind Bright seashells on the sand, The sun goes down But gentle warmth Still lingers on the land, The music stops And yet it echoes on In sweet refrains... For every joy that passes Something beautiful remains. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Mikes wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., Wpg, R3E 0V9.
