Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE CATCHEWAY (nee GUIBOCHE) December 2, 1923 - March 16, 2001 Suddenly on March 16, 2001 at the Winnipegosis General Hospital, Catherine, of Skownan First Nation, passed away at the age of 77 years. Catherine was born on December 2, 1923 in Camperville, Man. to Edward Guiboche and Marie Elizabeth. Catherines memory will forever be cherished by daughter Marie (Gordon) Nepinak; step-son Donald (Mary Bert) step-daughter Elsie (Willie) Marsden; granddaughter Madeline, whom she raised; sisters, Catherine Houle and Flora (George) Catcheway; special friends, Philomen Flatfoot and Donald Chartrand of Winnipegosis; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews in Camperville, Pine Creek, Mallard and Rock Ridge, Man. She was predeceased by her husband Alex ("Shoom Alec") and by her brother Joe Guiboche. "Coocoo" as the family and community knew her by, never attended any school and learned everything from her parents, friends and family. Catherine grew up in Pine Creek and lived there until December, 1945, when she married Alex and moved to Skownan, where she resided for the rest of her life. Some of Coocoos favourite past times included sewing, making moccasins, tanning hides, making quilts and many other handicrafts. She also loved to spend time out in the woods, camping, berry picking, wild rice picking, digging roots, sapping maple sugar, gathering natural herbs and medicines and other nature activities. She also loved to chat on the telephone with her friends and enjoyed cooking (her kitchen was always open to family and guests). Our mother and grandmother was a strong, wise and skilled woman who carried with her valuable knowledge of the land, our history and our native language. For this and many other qualities, she will be greatly missed and forever loved. A wake service will be held on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the Skownan Pentecostal Church, Skownan, Man. with Pastor Abraham Houle officiating. Interment will follow at the Skownan Pentecostal Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to ANDERSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Ashern, Manitoba 1-204-768-3606
