Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPIERRE DENIS COTE On March 17, 2001, after a long and courageous struggle, at the age of 81 years, with his family by his side, Pierre passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Pierre leaves to cherish his memory one brother Edouard; four sisters, Rose Gourbil, Denise Claeyes, Lucie Votto, all of Winnipeg and Rachel Belair of Kenora; his daughter Pauline and his grandson David of Headingley; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Francois and Emma Cote (nee Tetreault) four sisters, Corana Boux, Annette Fontaine, Rolande Goguen, Rita Allen and one brother Edmond. Pierre was born and raised in St. Pierre-Jolys. He worked on the family farm, hauling gravel with his father and brother. He then went to Winnipeg to work as a welder and also in Vancouver where he was involved in an accident, leaving him paralyzed for over 56 years. Pierre went to Deer Lodge where he learned to drive a hand controlled vehicle, and skills to live with his disability. He was very agile with his hands, making leather crafts such as hand bags and wallets. He also made a violin and guitar which he also played. Pierre was always ready with a quick joke and a funny story with his friends and family. One of his last great joys was to ride around in his New Handy Van. Prayers presided by Sister Rose Desrochers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Pierre Catholic Church on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m., with viewing at 10:30 a.m., with Father Benjamin Kazadi-Shabani presiding. Service will terminate at church with cremation to follow. A private interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of De Salaberry District Health Centre and the staff at GH6 at the Health Sciences Centre and also the Home Care team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3A 1M5.
