HERBERT URBAN McKENZIE 1926 - 2001 Peacefully following a lengthy illness, Urban, dearly beloved husband and father, passed away at the Concordia Hospital with his loving wife Maryann and daughter Marianne of Calgary, AB, at his side. Urban was born in Selkirk, MB and had many wonderful memories while going to school and working at the Manitoba Rolling Mill where he met and married his wife Maryann (Sawchuk) in 1957. His early training at the mill gave him a broad working knowledge of steel production, and in 1959 he and his wife moved to Winnipeg to further his career as sales office supervisor, retiring in 1991. Urban gave generously of his time to various sports in the community, excelling at coaching young hockey hopefuls. He was an avid baseball and hockey fan, taking road trips to the U.S. when he could to see a Major League game. His lakeside summer home in Matlock, MB was a great source of relaxation and enjoyment where he and his family made many special memories. Urban was a skilled craftsman who worked diligently to remodel his homes and cottage. In his spare time, he made use of his carpentry skills to build scale models of sailing ships and airplanes and his love of knowledge prompted him to spend many hours reading. Urban enjoyed travel and took his family on many winter vacations in Florida, Mexico, the Caribbean, and his favourite destination, Hawaii. Urban was a very caring and devoted father, spending many hours with his daughter talking, reading, fishing, walking, and encouraging her love of equestrian riding. Urban was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Olga; sisters, Kathleen and Leona; brother Keith; and is survived by his sister Olga Sedik (Mike) and many nieces and nephews. Family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Jerry Bergen for his constant care and compassion. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, and his only daughter. In keeping with Urbans wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Urbans name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. "You suffered much in silence, We watched you fade away, You fought so hard to stay, Your memory is our keepsake With which we will never part, God has you in His keeping, We have you in our hearts." Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
