N. LLOYD HANDFORD It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Lloyd Handford on March 19, 2001 at the age of 80 years. He was predeceased by his wife Grace and his daughter Janice in 1996; siblings, Verne, Harvey, Grace and Velma. He leaves to cherish his memory son Scott (Leslie), Jason, Kayla and Connor; son Glen (Jeannie), Lavinia; daughter Pat Milas (Bruno), Angela and Derrick; son-in-law Bill Harnum, Alan and James; also many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was born in Winnipeg on July 2, 1920. He attended Isaac Brock, Daniel McIntyre and Wesley College in Winnipeg. He loved helping at his Uncle Lous farm in Snowflake, where he developed his love of horses and country life. He lived at home until voluntarily joining the army in 1941. He trained at McGill University in Montreal, and served overseas with the RCAF (Radar) until 1945. He was employed by Monarch Life Assurance Company for his entire working career until he retired in 1982 as an underwriter. Lloyd met Grace at Monarch Life, and they were married in 1949. They shared 47 years together in sunny St. James, where they enjoyed their four children, Janice, Pat, Glen and Scott, along with their cat Pegs and dog Sparky. Summer holidays spent camping and visiting friends and relatives were happy family times. Dad enjoyed trips with Mom to Hawaii, Spain and Portugal. He was a wonderful gardener, and his tomatoes and green beans were "legendary". He was most relaxed when listening to his extensive collection of classical music. Golfing was another passion, which he shared with the family in later years at their annual retreats at Hecla and Falcon Lake. We cant forget Sunday afternoons at Assiniboia Downs where Dad loved to watch the ponies run. Dad was an honest, dependable, hard-working father who will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. Should friends so desire, donations in Lloyds memory may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, N. 108 North Pavilion, Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
