Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ROTHENBERGER March 8, 1925 - March 19, 2001 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of John Rothenberger, age 76 of Winnipeg, Man. on March 19, 2001 at Seven Oaks General Hospital. John was born March 8, 1925 in Rhein, SK. John moved to Winnipeg as an infant and spent his childhood peddling vegetables and attending school in the North End. At the age of 17 he began working for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He had a modest beginning as a dishwasher on the dining car advancing through the ranks to eventually become an engineer and then retiring after 43 years of service. John enjoyed reading, family pets and spending time at home reminiscing about his childhood and remembering fondly his time employed with the CPR. John was predeceased by his father Conrad; mother Amilia (nee Proop) and niece Sharie. John will be dearly missed by his loving wife Edna (Sylvia) (nee Miller) son Curtis (Susanne) daughter Christine Stieben; grandchildren, Sharie (Sharon) and Sandra Stieben, Carli-Rae and Matthew Rothenberger; brothers, Pastor Victor (Martha) and Albert (Lillian) numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 815 Inkster Ave. with Pastor Don Engel officiating. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, MB., R2L 1X3.
