JOHN ROBERT "BOB" GILMOUR It is with great sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing of John Robert "Bob" Gilmour, on March 19, 2001, at the Grace Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend, Shirley; son Darryl (Lori) and grandson Nolan of Mesa, Arizona; daughter Darlene (Barry) Blue of Stony Mountain, Man.; sister Opal (Floyd) Miller of Fortier, Man.; nephews, Jim (Laura) Miller, Ken Miller, Jayson (Julie) Gilmour, Todd (Crystal) Green; nieces, Donna (Jim) McKenzie and Karen (Chris) Chezik; brother-in-law Lorne (Joan) Green of Calgary, Alta.; mother-in-law Mary Green, also of Calgary; and brother-in-law Bill Brydon of Portage. Also surviving are several great-nephews and nieces along with numerous cousins and special friends, "Bud" Peterson and Dick Keith. Bob was predeceased by his parents Irene and Hamilton Gilmour, brother Howard (Gail) Gilmour and sister Peggy Brydon. Bob was born in Austin, Man., on September 8, 1932, where he grew up and received his education. He worked on the family farm until he moved to Winnipeg. After attaining his welding certificate, he gained employment with Kane Equipment and later with Standard Aero where he remained for 29 years, retiring in 1992 as welding inspector. Most important in Bobs life were his two children, Darryl and Darlene and grandson Nolan"His Little Buddy." Bob began courting the "love of his life" in 1952 and they were married in July of 1958. They resided in Winnipeg where they raised their family, enjoying such activities as traveling and camping. All sports were of great interest to him. In recent years he adopted an extended family at the Perkins restaurant on Portage Avenue. He truly enjoyed their camaraderie and care. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation one half hour prior to the service time, with the Reverend Bill Corkum officiating. Active pallbearers will be George Tanner, Gordon Downie, Jack Stewart, Stuart "Bud" Peterson, Richard Keith and Doug Reynolds. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3A 1P6, or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9.
