EDMUND JAMES (JIMMY) WOODS Peacefully on March 18, 2001, Jimmy Woods, beloved husband of Betty, passed away at the age of 70 years. Jimmy was born in Winnipeg on May 10, 1930 and grew up in the citys North End. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 18, serving for five years. In 1953 he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department and enjoyed working there until his retirement in 1984. His hobbies included model trains and carpentry. Family was the most important thing in Dads life. As his children grew, Jim spent time at every sport they played, sometimes coaching but always there as a spectator. He was always involved in and supportive of the endeavours of his three children, Derek, Blair, and Jennifer, and his love of reading and travel greatly influenced them. Jimmy will be lovingly remembered by Betty, his wife of 44 years; Derek and Tina of Toronto, Blair, Lana and family of Naples, Florida, and Jennifer and Jeff of Vancouver. Grandpa Jimmy will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Russell, Stephen and Rae who spent many happy times with him when they were his neighbours on Belcourt Bay. Since their move south they have spent holidays together, the latest being at Christmas when the whole family gathered in Florida. He will also be remembered by his sisters, Nell Abel, and Margaret Knelson; his nieces, nephews and his many friends. Despite his illness Dad maintained his sense of humour and kept us all laughing, even at the most difficult times. We are grateful to our friends, family and neighbours for all of their support, especially Shirley and Bert Friesen. Special thanks to Michael Tesfai for his kindness and support - a caregiver by occupation and friend by choice. At Jimmys request cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Research Department, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8, or Fire Fighters Burn Fund, 202 - 666 St. James St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3J6. "We will miss you and always remember you." Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
