Avey was born on September 16, 1912 in Moosomin, SK, the eldest daughter of Geoffrey and Jane Cross. She was a kind and gentle person who lived by the Golden Rule and possessed dignity and charm. She worked for several years as an Accounting Clerk with the Manitoba Family Court and was a life member of the Manitoba Government Retired Employees Association. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her daughter Joan Allport of Mississauga, ON and grandchildren, Leslie and Geoffrey; sisters, Jean Cross of Vancouver, BC and Edna Fenton of Winnipeg, MB; and by her nephew Dennis Fenton, also of Winnipeg. A private family funeral service will be held and Avey will then join her parents in Brookside Cemetery. The last years of Aveys life were spent in the Deer Lodge Centre and our family wishes to thank the staff there, especially on 7 West, for their care and kindness. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
