EDWARD (TED) KIERNAN After a brief, four week illness, Edward (Ted) Kiernan died peacefully, at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2001 surrounded by his family. Born in Broxburn, Scotland and educated at Blairs College Aberdeen and Edinburgh University, he served in the Royal Air Force in Hebrides, Devon, Tripoli, and Malta, and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He took a post-graduate degree at the University of Manitoba, taught at West Kildonan Collegiate, was principal of Centennial School, Curriculum Consultant with the Department of Education, and principal of Rossville School, Norway House Indian Reserve until he retired. Ted was a man of strong faith who led by serving others. A firm believer in social justice, he generously touched the lives of many. At St. Ignatius Church, he was Co-ordinator of Lay Instructors, served for many years on the Advisory Board and as Church Trustee. He co-ordinated Sunday School for ten years as well as serving as usher, lector and Eucharistic Minister. Since his retirement, over the past 18 years, Ted had pursued his hobbies of reading, reading, reading! and volunteering. One of Teds many ministries on behalf of St. Ignatius was to take Communion to the residents of Central Park Lodge, Poseidon Bay. He also drove for Interfaith Immigration, driving immigrant women to and from English classes, weekly volunteer driver for Riverview Hospital patients, and drove on behalf of Jewish Family Services by taking people both to shopping and to appointments. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary of 47 years; son John; granddaughters, Laura and Julie and their mother, Esther, and by his daughter, Kathleen and Tom and their daughter, Fiona. He will be sorely missed by the "Chicken Delight Ministry". Prayers will be said at the St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church (Corydon and Stafford) on Monday, March 26 at 8:15 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated the following day, Tuesday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Private interment will take place in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Rossbrook House, or the St. Ignatius School Library.
