JOANN MARY DUPUIS (nee EMPSON) It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Joann Mary Dupuis on March 23, 2001 at the Emerson Hospital, with her family at her side, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her husband Leo-Paul of 39 years; daughters, Paulette (Brian Goossen), Michelle (Garth Steinert), Denise (Rick Taylor), Nicole (Duane Enns) one son Ronald Dupuis; ten grandchildren, Ryley, Chelsey, Caley (Steinert), Rebecca (Goossen), Cassandra, Makenzie (Taylor), Shadoe, Deveraux, Skylar (Enns) and Marcella (Dupuis). Sister Diana (Gordon Breckon). Brothers, James (Yvette), Douglas (Rosemary), Ronald (Maxine), Richard (Barb), Wally (friend Marlyn) and Kelvin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Kelvin and Lillian Empson; and father-in-law Paul Dupuis. Born in Vita, MB, July 7, 1940, she was raised in Letellier and attended the Inverness School. Joann married her school sweetheart on October 7, 1961 and resided in Letellier until 1963 then resided in Winnipeg until her move to Emerson in 1975. Leos employment took them to Brandon in 1992 and back to Emerson in 1996. Joanns role in life was that of a wonderful and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren as well as her family and many friends meant everything to Joann. Nothing was more important to her than being with her family whether it was in her home or camping, she was always at the center of all activities. One of her favourite pastimes was cooking and she demonstrated that very well in her restaurant business and last summer at the Emerson Golf Course. She was the stalwart of her family. The family would like to extend their thanks to the many doctors and nurses at the Emerson Hospital, Winkler Hospital and the Chemo Unit at Morden Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the Emerson United Church, with Rev. Lesley Calder officiating. In keeping with Joanns wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Emerson Palliative Care Unit or to CancerCare Manitoba would be greatly appreciated. Wiebes Funeral Home, Altona, MB in care of arrangements, 204-324-5404.
