Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER WOWCHUK September 21, 1924- March 23, 2001 Gone are the days when you can gage your daily activities by "Walters time clock." The blue truck runs no more. With little notice and no goodbyes, Walters zest for life came to an unjustified end on Friday, March 23, 2001. Walter Wowchuk was born in Poplarfield, Man., on September 21, 1924. The eldest of four children, he attended Rus School in Fisher Branch while helping out on the family farm. At the age of 16, he left Fisher Branch to work in the gold mines of Central Patricia in Northwestern Ontario. While mining, he found a little treasure of his own, Nellie Symchych. Walter and Nellie were married on July 7, 1946. They remained at Central Patricia until the mine closed in 1951. They moved back to Fisher Branch which would become their permanent home. Walter would find employment with the Ukrainian Farmers Cooperative in Fisher Branch. Walter would be known for his wonderful people skills, along with being the longest serving Store Manager with the Ukrainian Farmers Co-op upon his retirement in 1989. Walters retirement years meant more time for cribbage, picking mushrooms, gardening, wine making and fishing with the boys. Walter brightened the lives of many people wherever he went. He was always a team player and an ardent supporter of the community. His presence will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his dear wife Nellie; sons, Ed (Donna) and David (Jeanne) daughter Debbie; grandchildren, Chelsey, Dylan, Garret, Lindsay and Stacey; his sister Elsie (John) his brother Bill (Polly) and his mother Kay and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fisher Branch, Man. Interment will follow the service. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the doctors and nurses of the 7th floor Intensive Care Unit, Health Sciences Centre, for their constant support and relentless efforts to make Walters stay as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher Branch Personal Care Home in memory of Walter. Fisher Funeral Home in care of arrangements. 372-6271.
