WILLIAM "ALLAN" KELTIE F.S.A The death of Allan Keltie occurred on March 23, 2001 in Oakville, Ont. William Allan Keltie is survived by his beloved wife Margaret (McMahon) daughters, Joyce of Killarney, Man., and Janet (Acheson) of Edmonton; son Dick of Victoria and granddaughters, Leanne Keltie, Kristin Acheson and Michelle Acheson. Allan was a man with strength of character, commitment to family, enthusiasm for life and an eagerness to learn. He encouraged his children to do their best and was most helpful in their career selections. Born in St. Boniface, Man., on June 3, 1915, Allan Keltie received an award for scholastic excellence in high school, which assisted his parents in funding his university education. Allan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1936 from the University of Manitoba and received the Gold Medal for Economics. After graduation he worked for the Department of Insurance in Ottawa and then National Life Insurance Company of Vermont. While in Vermont, his wife Mary (Rowe) passed away, leaving two children. Allan returned to Winnipeg in 1948 where he married Margaret (McMahon). They were happily married for 52 years. He became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1946 and throughout his career he maintained a strong affiliation with the Society of Actuaries. He worked for the Great-West Life Assurance Company in Winnipeg in Underwriting. In 1971 he moved to Montreal to Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada where he was appointed Underwriting Executive and Executive Officer. He worked for Sun Life until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, he continued his interest in life insurance with Bragg Associates, Actuarial Consultants of Atlanta, Georgia participating in studies of mortality rates for smokers and non-smokers. Allan especially enjoyed golf, playing regularly with Margaret. In retirement he played at the Oakville Golf Club and on winter vacations in Sarasota, Florida. His other recreations were swimming, fishing, woodworking, amateur radio and lately computing. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 27 at St. Johns United Church, 262 Randall St., Oakville, Ont.
