Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLA GIBB Peacefully, after a long and happy life, Viola Isabel Gibb (nee Forest) passed away on March 25, 2001 at the KinPlace Personal Care Home with Terry and Shirley at her side. Viola was born on January 21, 1916, the only child of Eva (nee Maranda) and Omer Forest. She lived the first 80 years of her life in Transcona and was proud of her Transcona heritage. Her grandfather, Joseph Maranda (deceased 1960) operated the first jitney service between Transcona and Winnipeg in the early 1920s. Her father, Omer Forest (deceased 1979) sold Christmas trees for decades from their home on Yale Avenue and Day Street and is remembered by many as Transconas Christmas Tree Man. Viola married William Gibb on September 16, 1939 and after six short months Bill left to serve overseas, returning home five years later. On October 7, 1952 their only child Terence was born. Viola worked for many years, retiring from Deloitte, Haskins and Sells in 1980 when she turned her energies to caring for her ailing husband Bill (deceased 1988) and her mother Eva (deceased 1990). Viola was a "party gal" who was always ready for a good time with friends and family, be it at home or at the West Hawk Lake cottage. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Terry, daughter-in-law Shirley, and grandchildren, Ashleigh, Hilary and Corey. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Rev. Dawn Ballantine-Dickson, to KinPlace and Middlechurch Personal Care Homes for helping to make Violas last five years so pleasurable. A celebration of Violas life will be held at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street on Friday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing one half hour prior to service. Rev. Dawn Ballantine-Dickson officiating. Burial at the Transcona Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a favourite charity or to the Oakbank United Church Memorial Fund, Box 148, Oakbank, MB R0E 1J0. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
