LEON HOFMAN It is with very heavy hearts and an overwhelming sense of loss that we announce the passing of our most precious husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Leon Hofman, on March 24, 2001 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 84 years. Besides his wife Adela of 55 years he is survived by his daughters, Mary (Jim Bolton) and Liz (Doug Neufeld) one son John (Josie) eight grandchildren, Theresa, James, Daniel, Michael, Matthew, Jacqueline, Jeanette and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Kate, Presley and Hannah. He is also survived by numerous family members in Poland. Dad was born in Poland in 1916. He had to endure many hardships and difficult times throughout his life, yet he managed to overcome them all. He was a gifted musician and taught himself to read and write. Dad served in the Polish Army and was then captured and placed in a prisoner of war camp. It was there in Germany where he met and then married the true love of his life, Adela with whom he shared three children and cherished their 55 years of marriage. After the war, Mom and Dad left Germany and travelled to South America where they lived for the next few years. From there, they found their way into Canada in hopes of a better life. Dad found work wherever he could to support his family and struggled to ensure they never lacked for anything. He then became employed as a machinist helper at CP, Weston Shops for 26 years at the time of his retirement. Dad was also a proud and active member of the Royal Canadian Polish Legion, Branch 246, participating in the colour guard in which he took great pride. Dad was a generous man, offering his knowledge and wisdom to instill values to his family, which we carry with us to this day. Dad was a rare individual with a mischievous smile who was known and loved by all for his quick wit and ever surprising sense of humour, which he maintained right up to the very end. Dad took tremendous pride in his family and their achievements. He enjoyed playing cards with them and the question of who was cheating during these intense times was always at issue. Dad was also a fabulous storyteller, relating tales of the hardships endured in Poland and his experiences during the Second World War. How does one overcome the heartbreaking loss of such a truly wonderful man??? We will all love you forever and always and will never ever forget you. Prayers for Dad will held on Wednesday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for the care and compassion shown to our Father. WIECZNY ODPOCZYNEK RACZ MU DAC PANIE CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
