Rose, MB, surrounded by her niece Ruth Poersch, and friend Laura Scott. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Powchuk of Alonsa, MB, Lena was born January 14, 1908. She was predeceased by her sister Mary, her first husband Harry Folster and her second husband Jack Corfield. She is survived by her older sister Nellie Ranson; Nellies children, Helen Purden and Ron Ranson; Lenas niece Ruth Poersch; great-nieces and great-nephews and a large circle of friends and neighbours. Lena grew up on the family farm in Alonsa. When she married Harry Folster, they bought a farm on the south side of Margaret Bruce Beach in Bluff Creek. They also lived and trapped at Herb Lake. Returning to the farm, and with the death of her first husband, Lena married Jack (John) Corfield. Together they worked hard, raising cows, selling cream, haying, and fishing on Lake Manitoba. Lena and Jack boarded teachers at their home, as well as cared for a number of foster children. Lena was a great outdoors woman. She loved the lake and could hunt ducks and deer as well as any man. She was also very artistic, quilting, crocheting and sewing. Lena spent many happy times quilting with the Bluff Creek Ladies Quilting Circle. Lena and Jack were strong supporters of community activities and the Anglican Church. For many years they were caretakers of the Bluff Creek Cemetery. Lena moved to McCreary in 1987, making the Mountain View Lodge her home for the next 13 years. In July, 2000, she moved to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, Ste. Rose, where she resided until present. Lena Corfield had a great sense of humour and an engaging wit. She was an extremely kind and generous person, who helped everyone she could. Lena will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 27 at the Dobchuk Funeral Home, McCreary, MB. Funeral service to take place the same day at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, McCreary. Lunch to follow at the Legion Hall with interment later that afternoon at the Bluff Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made in Lenas memory to local community projects, such as the upkeep of the Bluff Creek Cemetery or to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose.
