ANNIE HOVRISKO On Sunday March 18, 2001, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Mrs. Annie Hovrisko was peacefully taken by the Lord at 92 years of age. Annie was born on December 22, 1908, daughter of Alex and Taklea (nee Mysko) Shordee near Stornoway, Saskatchewan. As a young girl Annie took great interest in helping her parents and siblings by sewing and helping on the farm wherever she could. A talented singer, she performed at concerts and sang with the church choir. She also was gifted in making crepe paper flower arrangements to decorate the country churches. Annie was employed for several years as a switchboard operator in Stornoway before marrying Louis Hovrisko. Together the couple made their home on a farm near Wroxton, where they raised their family and worked side by side for 35 years. Following Louis death in 1966, Annie moved to Winnipeg where she gained employment as a housekeeper at Grace Hospital. She took up residence at the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts in the mid 1970s and there acquired a passion for art. In her lifetime she completed some 50 works and numerous sketches, recreating scenes from scripture and depicting life as a prairie pioneer. After her retirement, Annie decided to move back to her roots and moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan to live at Queen Elizabeth Court. Annie was a very spiritual person and became an active member of St. Gerards Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Womens League. In December of 2000, illness required that Annie be hospitalized and after four months of accepted suffering, she left her family and friends to mourn her passing with sorrow but cherish her memory with joy. Annie was predeceased by her husband Louis; sisters, Mary Krupp and Sophie Fyck; brother Peter Shordee and parents, Alexander and Taklea Shordee. In her thoughts, deeds and prayers she will lovingly be remembered by her family, daughter Zonia (Harold) Patson of Winnipeg; two sons, Paul (Jean) of Langenburg, SK. and Vladimir (Sharon) of Wroxton, SK. As well she leaves to mourn her only brother Bill Shordee of Yorkton, SK and one sister Kay Sutherland of Toronto, ON, her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Annie will be especially missed by her nine grandchildren, Mark Patson of Winnipeg, Chris Patson of Winnipeg, Michelle Klimchuk of Calgary, AB, Marlin Hovrisko of Calgary, AB, Melody Hovrisko of Winnipeg, Austin Hovrisko of Regina, SK, Adrienne Hovrisko of Wroxton, SK, Simon Hovrisko of Saskatoon, SK and Rhonda Wright of Vancouver, B.C. - for whom she provided many years of unfailing words of guidance and comfort. Lastly she leaves her beloved great-grandchildren, Morgan, Caitlyn and Tristan. Donations in Annies memory may be made to St. Gerards Building Fund, 125 - 3rd Ave. N, Yorkton, SK. S3N 1C4.
