CHARLES EDWARD LA FORME It is with deep regret and sadness that I announce the passing of my husband "Ed" La Forme. Ed was born on December 2, 1920 in St. Jean Baptist, MB to Marie Louise Vandal and Timothee La Forme and moved to St. Boniface where he spent his early years. At the age of 16 he again moved with his parents to Inwood, MB, where he lived until he joined the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders at wars beginning. He moved up through the ranks and received his commission. As Major La Forme, he stayed in Germany with the army of occupation returning to Winnipeg and Canada in 1946. At this time he began employment as a bus driver with the Winnipeg Electric Company, again he rose through the ranks retiring in 1980 as Superintendent of Transportation for the City of Winnipeg Transit System. During his younger years he served with the Winnipeg Light Infantry - Militia, also with the Chamber of Commerce, and was very much involved with the First Pan Am Games, he was an avid golfer and member of Rossmere Country Club. His hobbies and interest varied, he built an addition to his home, featuring a Tyndall stone fireplace, cutting all the stone and doing the masonry himself, over a period of six years he fortified the riverbank with stone at his home, on Henderson Highway in East St. Paul where to this day it is still a point of interest for cruise boats. After retirement he put up a workshop in which he built a 32 foot cabin cruiser after which he kept busy with many projects in his home and yard. A man whose hands were never idle until his illness. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Olive, his sister Blanche (Rohne), and his brother Raymond. He is survived by his wife Isabelle, his brother Gerald (Shirley) of Thunder Bay, ON, his brother-in-law Art Rohne, and his sister-in-law Olga La Forme, as well as many nieces and nephews. Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Flowers gratefully declined; donations may be made in Charles memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6; or a charity of ones choice.
