MARGARET ORR (nee McBRIDE) April 27, 1900 - March 24, 2001 Peacefully on March 24, 2001 at Oakview Place, after a brief illness, we lost our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Margaret was born April 27, 1900 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and came to Canada at age nine, along with her sister Wilma, age seven. They travelled by themselves to Canada as wards of their ship to meet their mother who had previously arrived and chose Winnipeg to be their new home. Margaret met and then married Cecil in 1923. They raised a family of three children, Lawrence, Loreley (Laury) and Garnet. Margaret worked for "Eatons" and Cecil worked for "The Bay". Margaret became a well known seamstress making unique, custom made bed spreads and draperies for prominent families in Winnipeg. She was a long-standing member of the United Church Womans League and a past member of the Elizabeth Frye Society. She was also one of the last survivors of the group that defended the famous Wolseley Elm Tree in 1950, of which there is now a restaurant named after it. Margaret was a wonderful, kind hearted, strong willed woman with strength beyond our belief. She managed on her own (after her husband died in 1979) until her age of 98, before she considered taking up residence in a care home. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, sister, husband, youngest son Garnet, daughter-in-law Mildred, and grandson Douglas. She is survived by her daughter Laury Waugh, son Lawrence Orr, daughter-in-law Greta Orr; grandchildren, Kimberley McLean, Darren Orr, Ron (Val) Orr, Randy Orr; great-grandchildren, Kaila McLarnon, Matthew and Jeffrey Orr. At Margarets request, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., with Debra Schweyer officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Maharaj, the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor North at Oakview Place for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Youve closed your eyes now mother, grandmother Great-grandmother and friend... And have let this short time of suffering come to an end... Well all be together again someday... In a beautiful place thats far, far, away... Your century of living with your memory intact...
