Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE MASLECHKO (nee NICHIPORUK) Surrounded by her loving family, Annie Maslechko, a longtime resident of Minitonas, MB., passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at the Donwood Manor in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Mike, her parents Lawrence and Pryska Nichiporuk; sisters, Anastasia and Bella; brothers Andrew, Edward, Phillip, Carl and Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Lily, Fanny and Stepanina; brothers-in-law Victor, Metro, Petro and Bill. She is survived by her three children, Bill (Lecia), John (Kay) and Lorna; seven grandchildren, eight grandchildren, sister Laura, sisters-in-law Ann, Annie and many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in the village of Diatkowichy near Rovno, Ukraine and came to Canada as a young girl in 1929. The family initially settled in the Foam Lake, Saskatchewan area and it was here that Mom met and married her husband Mike. The stay in Foam Lake was brief with a move to the Grahamville district near Minitonas taking place in 1941. Here Mom and Dad farmed until their retirement to Swan River in 1977. Mom suffered a stroke in the spring of 1996, remaining in the Swan Valley Hospital rehab unit until here move to Donwood Manor in Winnipeg in the spring of 1997. In her last four years Mom made many new friends with the staff at Donwood Manor. Mom loved to travel and while her opportunities to do this were limited she had many fond memories of her trips to the Ukraine, British Columbia, Ontario, Washington, D.C. and California visiting family and friends. She found great pleasure in the ongoing process of repainting and wallpapering her home. She had a passion for growing and preserving food for the many, many guests who were always welcomed to her home and for designing and producing quilts for her family and friends. Our mother was a very caring and giving person saving her best love for her children and grandchildren. We always knew that we were loved and to the end that love was, and forever will be reciprocal. We are going to miss you Mom. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Prayers will be held at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. followed by prayers at Paulls Funeral Chapel in Swan River on Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service and interment will take place in the St. Laurentius Church near Minitonas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31 with Father Rodion Lusiak officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Moms grandchildren. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marx and the staff of Swan Valley Hospital rehab unit and the special staff of Donwood Manor whose compassion and unconditional love for Mom was sincerely appreciated. Thank You! Paulls Funeral Home, Swan River and Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
