OWEN WILLIAM HOSEGOOD With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, at the age of 71 years, at his home on Wednesday, March 28, 2001. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife and best friend Maureen; his children, Cheryl (Tom), Maureen (Brian), Garth (Karen) and his grandchildren, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Alana, Lea and Evan. He will be missed by his brother Bob, sister-in-law Gloria and nieces and nephews. Owen was predeceased by his parents Bill and Hilda. Born in June 1929 in Winnipeg, Owen attended Gordon Bell High Schoolafter which he went into business with his father, running Hosegoods Grocery on Broadway until 1975 when he began Hosegoods IGA in Windsor Park, which he ran with his son Garth until his retirement. Owen was an astute businessman, building a very successful and enduring family business over the years. He enjoyed meeting and working with the public and his staff. As well, he built many strong friendships with his colleagues. Owen married the love of his life Maureen in 1952, and together they enjoyed raising their three children. Together for 49 years, they enjoyed traveling to many exciting places, particularly with the "dirty dozen." Owens favourite place was his cottage at Lake Shore Heights, which he lovingly built and cared for over the years. The family has many wonderful memories of happy times spent there together. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
