Date of Passing: Mar 28, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERARD HENRI DUVAL It is with infinite sadness that we advise that our cherished husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the age of 79 years. He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by his caring and devoted wife of 52 years, Aline (nee Baril) his children, Lea, Therese, and Gerald; his son-in-law, Robert Betournay and his grandchildren, Chantal, Marie, Claude, Robert-Jean, and Nicole Betournay. Also left to mourn his passing are his brothers and sisters, Marie-Ange (Hebert), Angele (Remus), Sylvio, Roger, Leon and Denis Duval. Gerard was predeceased by his brother, Roland; parents, Wilfrid and Marie-Anne (nee Courcelles). Gerard was raised in St. Jean-Baptiste, working on the family farm until he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He settled with his wife on his own farm property in St. Joseph, participating in community life as church deacon. When his children began university studies, he moved his family to St. Boniface so they would not be separated. Gerard will be remembered for his love of family, and in particular, for his teasing manner and impish grin. Until his stroke in 1992, he enjoyed life and meeting new people. He had a friendly word for everyone with whom he came into contact. With immense patience, he listened to his childrens narratives and laughed the hardest at his son-in-laws humourous tales. He found comfort during his long illness in his faith in God and the hereafter. Gerards family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to his caring and devoted homecare attendants, Roger, Valerye, Wilf, Edwin, Sam and Kevin, and in particular to his kind and attentive physician, Dr. Nicole Caron-Boulet. Pursuant to Gerards wishes, cremation has taken place. Fathers Marcel Toupin and Ronald Leger will concelebrate the Mass of the Resurrection at the St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 1007 St. Marys Road in St. Vital on Monday, April 2, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation in Gerards memory to the League for Life c/o your parish church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
