JEAN JOHNSTON (nee BRUCE) Peacefully, on June 19, 2001, Jean Johnston passed away at Oakview Place at the age of 92 years. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Mel; her sister Violet England; and by her brother Archie Bruce. She is survived by her three daughters, Joan (Gene) of Kelowna, BC, Betty (Stuart) and Teryl (Frank) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Heather (Rob) of Winnipeg, Brian (Holly) of Ottawa, ON, Angela (Brent) and David of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Brenna; three sisters-in-law, Jean Sayer of Indian Head, SK, May Johnston of Swan River, MB, Marion Johnson of Lethbridge, AB and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born on January 5, 1909 at Dacotah, MB where she was raised and received her education. She married Mel Johnston and together they raised three daughters. In 1949, Mels work moved the family to Moose Jaw, SK for five years and in 1954, the family returned to Winnipeg, settling in Silver Heights where Jean lived until moving to Oakview Place in 1997. Jean was a wonderful cook and gardener. There was always room at her table for one more and her flowers were admired by everyone who saw them. She was active in the church for most of her life and had been a member of Deer Lodge United Church since moving here in 1954. She knit and crocheted many articles for the Ladies Club Teas as well as for her own home and also did beautiful embroidery and needlepoint pictures. Jean enjoyed working at the Eatons mail order on the phone lines during the 1960s. At Jeans request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held July 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Jeans nephew Ken, his wife Gerri, and to Jeans nieces Gwen and Marjorie for their regular visits. Also to Asta and Helma for taking Jean to "Astas Tea" on Thursday afternoons. The family would also like to thank everyone at Oakview Place who cared for Mom. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
