JOHN STEWART MERTON LINDSAY We regret to announce the death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on March 24, 2001, of Mr. John Stewart Merton Lindsay, at the age of 88 years. Merton was raised near Neepawa, Man., and was a longtime resident of Winnipeg prior to moving to Vernon 20 years ago. He was a veteran, serving during the Second World War in the RCAF. He was an avid gardener, and was heavily involved in church activities at Kildonan United Church in Winnipeg, and at Knox Presbyterian Church in Vernon. Merton was predeceased by his first wife Annie (nee Clark) in 1978; by brothers, Dawson and Delbert; by daughter Dianne in 1973 and granddaughter Laura in 1996. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Phyllis of Vernon; sons, Rob (Wendy) of Guelph, Ont., and Don of Victoria; step-daughter Gladys Clark of Calgary and grandchildren, Tim Lindsay, Wes Clark and Brenda Clark. Merton is also survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family members. Funeral service was held on Saturday, March 31, at 2:00 p.m., at Knox Presbyterian Church in Vernon with Doctor Ed Millin officiating. Cremation followed. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in Glen Eden Cemetery in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donation in memory of Merton to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of their choice. Arrangements are in care of Vernon Funeral Home. (250) 542-0155.
