MARJORIE MARTHA SUMMERS (nee MARTHA SCHMIDT) Peacefully, after a brief illness at Calvary Place Nursing Home, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Marjorie Summers (Mom), on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the age of 93 years. Mom was born in Winnipeg on March 29, 1908. Her family soon moved to Beausejour where she received her education. She moved back to Winnipeg in her teens where she was employed as a Domestic, and later married and moved to England. Following the death of her husband, Mom resided in Winnipeg raising her three young sons. In spite of the hard times and struggles of being a single young parent, she worked very hard as a Presser with Perths in the clothing industry putting in long hours and eventually achieved a position specialized to the "Hoffman Presser". She was a pioneer in this trade being the only female able to work with this machinery in a field dominated by men at the time. A position she was very proud to attain and excelled at. In 1960, Mom was able to purchase her first home which was a great source of pride. She enjoyed her home and garden and kept both up meticulously. She remained a long time resident in the Brooklands area moving only recently due to failing health. Moms final residence was Calvary Place Nursing Home, where she enjoyed the company of many staff members and residents. Mom enjoyed her gardening, travelling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was very pleased to have been able to travel to Europe and spend time in Texas. She spent a great deal of time with her great-grandsons, Sean and Jordan, whom she adored and were a great source of her amusement. She also had special memories of times and visits spent with her grandson Brett and his wife DArcy and appreciated their help and assistance whenever needed. Mom spoke fondly of visits with her granddaughter Kathy Kuz to whom who remained close. She is survived by her three sons, William (Barbara) of Winnipeg, MB, Al (Blanka) of Westbank, BC, Douglas (Jean) of Winnipeg, MB; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Ivy Selmer, Ollie Belton, Helen Neudorf; brothers, Harry, Lou, Bill and Emil; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John Dennis in 1937; parents, Edward and Wilhelmina; brothers, Chris, Edward, Samuel, Ronald and Eric. Special thanks to Chaplain Henry Schultz, and staff members at Calvary Place Nursing Home, especially Angie, Eva, Edith, Tristan and Ruth. In compliance with Moms instructions, no formal funeral service will be held and a private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Moms memory to a charity of ones choice. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
