HECTOR BROWN BAIN Hector Brown Bain, born in Winnipeg April 8, 1916, survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 60 years. Phyllis has been his love and inspiration since they met in 1930, May 12 to be exact. His son, John Hector Bain (Geri), his daughter Patricia Phyllis Lubis (Levi) and four grandchildren, John and Laura Tilley and Cathie Loreth (Bain) and Michael Bain. He was predeceased (1965) by his loving mother known to all as Grandma Bain. Dad was a long time member of Knox United Church and was Caretaker of the Church when he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and after service overseas returned home at the end of 1945. He joined the Winnipeg Police Department in April 1946 and retired April 1976 with the rank of Sargeant. Much to his surprise and pleasure his son John joined the Winnipeg Police Department in 1961 and retired in 1990. Dads love for music followed him around most of his life. He took his first violin lesson when he was 10 years old, played in a church band and had a band of his own when in High School. He also played in the R.C.A.F. dance band and still played once and a while up until he passed away. In 1953 father joined the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band and in 1958 joined the Khartum Temple Shrine Pipe Band and for 15 years travelled through out Canada and the USA performing in parades. He joined the Canadian Legion in 1946 - Valour Road Branch, Winnipeg, transferring in the 60s to the Crescent River Heights Branch and served for a year as Secretary, then one year as President. On August 7, 1975 Dad retired from the Police Department and he and Mother moved to Surrey, BC and lived in Crispen Bays Mobile Home Park for the 19 years where he was very active in social activities up until the day he and Mother moved to Avondale Co-op and really began to enjoy their retirement. One of his most pleasurable achievements in Crispen Bays was putting on the Robbie Burns Dinner, which was a sell out for 13 years. While still in Crispen Bays, Dad transferred to Branch 240 of the Canadian Legion, White Rock. In 1947 while living in Winnipeg, father joined the Masonic Order, Ionic Lodge No. 25, and became Worshipful Master in 1963. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasons from 1958 to 1968 and now is a life member of the Gizah Temple here in Vancouver, BC. In 1983 he and Mother joined the White Rock Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star which gave them enjoyable evenings going to Lodge together. He was Worthy Patron in 1987 to 1988. Dad loved music of all kinds, opera, orchestral, dance music. He sang in two church choirs in Winnipeg and a Seniors Choir in Newton Seniors Centre in Surrey, BC. His greatest love was travelling back to Manitoba with Mom to spend summers at Falcon Lake at the family cottage that he built in 1953. Hectors last wish is that his wife, family and friends do not grieve over his passing as he is going from one world that has been so good to him to another where he will be waiting to greet us with the love and friendship shown him in the past. He had no enemies, he loved us all. At fathers request Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Dads life will be held between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 at the Avondale Clubhouse, located at 13742 - 74th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. "Hector will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him." FRASER HEIGHTS FUNERAL HOME 604-589-2559
