BERNARD FRANCIS BENNETT "BARNEY" After a lingering illness and on April 1, 2001, death closed the eyes of this fine gentleman. He was predeceased by his father Marcel Fernand Bennett and mother Mary Elizabeth Bennett (nee Meagher) and his two brothers, Robert Lawrence in March, 1999 and Charles Paul in January, 2000. Bernards death closes the book on the compelling lives of the three Bennett brothers. He leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Mary Bennett and her five boys, Charles Bernard, Robert Kevin, Paul Lawrence, Daniel Martin and Richard Thomas (all of France) and the Canadian nieces and nephews, Judith Ann, Mary-Jane, James Paul, Patrick Charles, Michael Bernard and Brendan Robert. Born May 15, 1920 Bernard attended Holy Cross School and later, St. Pauls High School. He pursued studies in Accounting and accepted a position with Booth Fisheries, initially in Boston and later, throughout the United States. In light of his mothers failing health he returned to Winnipeg becoming a general manager of McDiarmid Lumber. For the last 30 years he has owned and operated a business from his warehouse in Winnipeg. He was a humble man of refined taste and with a rare knowledge of art and antiques. He was a familiar face at antique auctions, art openings and Persian rug sales and enjoyed the camaraderie of those of similar interest. This, along with his family, was the center of his life. His 11 nieces and nephews will cherish for-ever the memory of the uncle who taught that one should be non-judgmental, should listen, should accept the opinions of others, believe in their good and enjoy the small pleasures of life. He delighted in the differing personalities of his nieces and nephews and loved each of them as his own. He died as he lived - in a dignified and peaceful way. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral, 353 St. Marys Ave., Rev. Darrin Gurr officiating.
