Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE LOUISE MINIONS (nee DUNHAM) On Monday, April 2, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer, Joyce Minions died comforted by the warmth and love of family and friends. She was born in Foxwarren, MB on August 20, 1934, the eldest daughter of Jean and Merv Dunham. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, John; their daughter Barbara and husband Terry of Toronto, daughter Dawna and husband David and grandchildren, Andrew and Emma Grant of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her brother Bert Dunham of Brandon, and sister Betty Hines of Gimli, as well as many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She will be truly missed by her special aunts, Ellen Dunham, Alma Mayhew and Edna Brott of Foxwarren; and by her many friends who, to her, were a part of her family. Joyce received her early education in Foxwarren and went on to earn degrees from Brandon University, The University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. She also spent, with John, a sabbatical year at Laval University studying French as a second language. Her teaching career included schools in Foxwarren, Carberry and the Assiniboine South School Division from which she retired in 1989. She enjoyed teaching History, English and French and for many years was a Teacher-Librarian in Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools. Joyce loved to learn. She was an avid reader and was especially concerned about the social well being of others. She loved nature, noted the comings and goings of birds, enjoyed walks in the woods and summers at the family cottage. Time spent with friends was very precious to her and she looked forward to participating in the activities of her social groups. Since retirement she developed a very active interest in playing bridge, was determined to master the intricacies of the computer but was proudest of her role of "professional grandmother". A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Joyces life will be held on Friday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 603 Wellington Cres. Parking is available on the west side of the Shriners Hospital which is located next to the church. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, or to a charity of ones choice. The family would like to thank all of those who offered their support during Joyces illness, with special thanks to the staff of ward WRS5 of the Womens Pavilion, Health Sciences Centre.
