HENRY WARSZA With great sadness the family announces the passing of Henry Warsza on Monday, April 3, 2001, at the Selkirk General Hospital. Henry was born in Mogilew, Poland in 1916. He apprenticed and worked as a carpenter in Wilno, Poland until 1937 when he was conscripted into the Polish Army. In the fall of 1939 he resumed work as a carpenter in Wilno until May of 1940 when the city was taken over by the Russian Army and Henry was sent to a Russian Labour Camp in Siberia. This imprisonment ended in 1943 when he volunteered with the Polish Army 2nd Corp under the British General Anders. Henry served in the Military Police with the rank of Sergeant. His military campaigns took him through many countries of the Middle East including Persia, Iraq, Palestine and Egypt. The war moved into Italy where Henry was engaged in the battle to gain Monte Cassino. After the war Henry was discharged in London, England where he again found work as a carpenter with Messr. W & C French Ltd. While in London he decided to immigrate to Canada and with the help of Adolphe Los was sponsored by Einar Goodman of East Selkirk in 1949. Henry subsequently worked for Adolphe Los at Selkirk Lumber for 37 years as a masterful and respected carpenter. While in Canada, Henry corresponded with Krystyna Oklinska who he married in Poland in 1959. Henry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 42 and the Army, Navy and Veterans Unit 151. Henry was much loved by his many colleagues and friends, and will be surely missed by all. Remaining to cherish his memory are his family, Krystyna, his beloved wife of 42 years; sons, Richard (Janet), and Stanley (Lisa) his much loved daughter Elizabeth Craig (Gregg) granddaughters, Jenny and Emily whom he liked to call "his Mila"; his grandson Nicholas; and many relatives in Poland and England. Prayers will be said on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m., in Selkirk at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Burial will follow at the Parish Cemetery, to be followed by a luncheon with family and friends in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch, 403 Eveline St., wheel chair accessible. The pallbearers will be Joe Bosak, Gregg Craig, Victor Helgason, Henry Joling, Ed Los and John Mytz. The family wishes to thank Dr. Demsas and Henrys darlings, the nursing and support staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, who compassionately cared for and joked with him in his last weeks anddays. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Henrys memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
