ELVIRA HOLMSTROM Elvira Holmstrom (Westin), aged 91, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away April 2, 2001 in Kenora, ON. She was born December 20, 1909 in Kenora. Remaining to celebrate her life are son George Holmstrom, daughter Helen Meikle (Jim), Winnipeg; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Olga Gibson (Harry), Vera Macdonald, Winnipeg; sister-in-law Gwen Westin, Lindsey, ON. Predeceased by her husband Hjalmer, 1981; mother and father, Ida and Gus Westin; sister Alva Skead (Harold) brother Edwin Westin; brother-in-law Ross Macdonald. Mom belonged to Rebekah Lodge No. 183, Wenonah Chapter No. 18 Order of the Eastern Star, Trainmen Lodge, Donna Club, Senior Center and her Bridge Clubs. Mums was an accomplished Cross Country Skier in her early years. Though gifted with scholarly ability, she chose to devote her life to home and family. The welcome mat greeted everyone with homemade breads and buns, Swedish pancakes and meatballs or coffee and a chat. Skilled in and treasured by us, her crochet work and fancy linens. Mom loved her roses; her small garden full of many varieties of beautiful colours which she gifted people with love. We will miss this gentle lady. Peacefully sleeping, resting at last Her weary troubles and trials are past. In silence she suffered, in patience she bore Until God called her home to suffer no more. We will never forget our Mom and Dad, there are too many cherished moments. The family wish to thank the staff, Pinecrest Home for the Aged, for their wonderful care and kindness during her stay. Indebted to Olga and Harry, and Bernice and our Kenora family and friends for their love and care. To others who took time to visit or send greetings, we thank you. No flowers, please. Donations for a charity of ones choice are appreciated. Funeral service will be at The Brown Funeral Home on Friday, April 6 at 2:30 p.m., with interment at the Kenora Cemetery. Family Plot. Pallbearers will be Greg Meikle, Tony Curtis, Harvey, Andrew, Jamie Longe and Walter Pernsky. The Brown Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
