RUTH ELENOR ROBINSON Ruth left us suddenly, apparently right after returning home from a walk, at her home for 45 of her 83 years. Ruth was born in Winnipeg on April 28, 1917, the oldest of the three children of Phil and Myrtle Hammond, long of 1202 Wolseley Avenue. Ruth attended Wolseley, Laura Secord and Gordon Bell Schools, and obtained her BA from the University of Manitoba in 1938. She subsequently obtained her MA from the University of Chicago, but returned to Winnipeg to teach at Luxton School until 1943. During the Second World War, Ruth met and fell in love with a wild and crazy English airman that was in Winnipeg for air crew training. When this airman, later her husband for life, crashed in 1944, Ruth traveled in a convoy to England to nurse him back to health. Married to T.W. (Robbie) Robinson in 1944, they returned to Winnipeg in 1947. After raising her two sons, Ruth returned to teaching at William Osler and Rockwood where she was a resource teacher for the rest of her career. Ruth always felt that teaching children with learning challenges was her challenge. Ruth was an avid bridge player and was well known for her positive outlook on life and extraordinarily high energy level. Ruth was predeceased by her husband less than two years ago, which left a huge hole in her life. She leaves her sons, Peter of Davis (California) and Paul of Vancouver as well as her granddaughters, Sarah, Emma and Meg of Davis, and Heather and Pamela of Vancouver. A memorial service to celebrate Ruths life will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the University of Winnipeg Scholarship and Bursary Fund, 515 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 2E9. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
