AUDREY JEAN NEWELL Peacefully in her sleep, Audrey Newell passed away at West Park Manor on Friday, April 6, 2001. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory her sons Kevin of Oakton, Virginia, and Brad, daughter-in-law Beverly and granddaughter Tara of Whistler, BC; niece Linda of Winnipeg; cousins Lucille of Winnipeg, Bonnie of Minneapolis, and Blayne of Deloraine, MB, as well as many good friends. Audrey was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on February 24, 1920, the only child of Arthur and Eva Disher. There she grew up with and married Arthur Newell. During Arts 25 years with the RCAF, they and their two sons lived in several locations in Canada and the USA. They returned to Winnipeg after spending 17 years in Washington, DC, where Art worked for the New Zealand Embassy. After Arts passing in 1986, Audrey travelled with friends and family to such places as Africa and Venezuela, especially enjoying many visits with her sons and granddaughter. Always an active athlete, at one time Audrey pitched for the St. Vital Tigerettes in the Senior Ladies League, winning two Most Valuable Player awards. She enjoyed gardening, walking, golfing, bowling, softball, bike riding and her two cats. A very sociable person, she loved to dance and get together with her friends at the Charleswood Legion where she was an active member for many years. In spite of her many jobs and activities, Audrey always put her family first, wanting only the best for them. The family wishes to extend thanks to all of the staff, especially 2nd floor, South Wing, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for the compassionate care shown to Audrey. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Audreys memory to the Alzheimers Society of Winnipeg, 120 Donald Street, R3C 4G2, would be appreciated by the family. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow.
