IDA M. MURDOCH Mom passed away quietly and peacefully at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Grace General Hospital. She was born in Winnipeg on October 3, 1906, one of three daughters of Samuel and Ada McCook. Mom met Robert Murdoch in 1926 at St. Pauls United Church and they were married in 1927. They settled into their home on Sherburn Street to raise their children, Robert Dean and Patricia. With the depression in the early 30s, and with Dad working half and part-time, they were forced to give up their home and started living in rented homes, which they continued to do right up to Dads death in 1985. Throughout many years of happy, sad and sometimes difficult times, ranging from the depression through to Dads early retirement due to his health problems, Mom never complained. She was always there, totally supportive of her husband and her children. While Dad was in hospital for nearly a year, waiting to move to a nursing home, Mom was there every day, all day, regardless of the weather. A practice she continued for several more years when Dad was in the nursing home. During Dads illness at home, in the hospital and the nursing home, Mom became Dads nurse and to some degree this isolated her from her friends and family. It was only after Dads death and her move to West Park Manor she returned to being more her old self. The unfortunate part was that she didnt get to see much of some of her grandchildren and she regretted this deeply, speaking of it often. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1985, her sisters, Eva in 1979 and Grace in 1993, and by her daughter Patricia Fraser (Boyd) in 1994. She is survived by her son Dean and wife Helene and his four children Heather, Diane, Robert, Charlene; their respective spouses; eight great-grandchildren, Helenes two sons Nathan and Andrew Enns, their spouses and two children, Moms deceased daughter Patricias five children, Steven, Terri, Gary, Craig, Sharon, their spouses and children, a sister-in-law Jean Palmason, two nieces, a nephew and families. Special thanks must also be extended to the staff and nurses at West Park Manor for the wonderful care, attention and concern they showed to Mom. It was Moms wish, out of concern for her granddaughter and her great granddaughters who are diabetic, that those wishing to make a contribution do so to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 2nd floor, 283 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, R3B 2B5. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Franz Weibe officiating.
