WILLIAM (BILL) KOWALKE 1913 - 2001 Peacefully after a courageous struggle, Bill passed away at the age of 87, at the Beausejour Hospital on Monday, April 9, 2001, with his family by his side. He will be sadly missed by his wife Lena of 63 years; his sons, Arthur (Diana), Ronald (May), Lenard (Lynette) and his daughters, Norma Woloshyn (Stan), Grace Patzer (Cliff), Bernice Rach (Dennis) and Darlene Zirk. Also mourning his passing are his 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Molly Freund and Lydia Betker and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Julianna; his four brothers, Gottlieb, Gus, Rudolf and Henry and his two sisters, Olga and Alvina. Bill was born on August 20, 1913 in Hanover, Man. He married Lena Neurenberg on September 24, 1937. In 1939, they moved to Glenmoor, Man. where he farmed and cut pulpwood. In 1964, he started to work in Pinawa on a winter work project and then from 1966 to 1978 he continued in Pinawa full time. He retired in 1978, sold the farm and moved to Tyndall in 1980. After suffering a stroke in 1983 and continuing failing health, he moved to a seniors home in Beausejour in 1997 where he resided until his passing. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E. Beausejour, with Pastor Arleen Berg officiating. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Committal will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Beausejour. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Doug and Jeff Woloshyn, Jason Patzer, Terry, Shawn and Richard Kowalke, David Rach, and Matthew Zirk. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Bills memory may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church, Greenwald or Beausejour & District Hospital.
