Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN JAMES (nee CARTER) 1916 - 2001 On Sunday, April 8, 2001, Joan James peacefully passed away at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home. Joan was born in the County of Portland, Dorset, England and migrated to Canada with her parents when she was a young child. Joan was predeceased by her husband Raymond James in 1996, previously by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Carter and her grandson Peter James Sibthorp. Joan is survived by her sisters, Doreen Livingstone (Winnipeg), Carlu Carter (Australia) and her children, Michael Thomas (Juliette) of Manitouwadge, Ont., Wendy Joy Sibthorp of Queen Charlotte Islands, BC and James Timothy (Sandy) of Winnipeg. Joan will be grievously and sadly missed by her children; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she was so proud of. Joan married Raymond on September 22, 1939 and they had the pleasure of 57 years of marriage. Joan joined Raymond in his business, The Colonial Florist Shop, on Main Street in Winnipeg and worked with him until they both retired when Joan turned 70. Joan was a faithful and supportive member of St. Stephens Anglican Church in East Kildonan. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Donna Mahussier of St. Stephens Church at Bethania Chapel on Wednesday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m. Her ashes will be buried beside her husbands in a private family service. Special thanks and appreciation to the nurses, staff and volunteers of Bethania Personal Care Home who affectionately cared for Joan in her latter years. Their many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joans memory to The Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba Inc., 1 - 333 Vaughan St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 3J9, whose support she enjoyed and appreciated.
