He is remembered also by his two brothers, Matt (Jean), Ernie (Steffie) five sisters, Elsie (Dan) Michasiw, Mildred (Alex) Kalynuik, Ann (Sam) Semaniuk, Mary (Steve) Wolochatiuk, Gladys Stefanishyn; sister-in-law Rose Baydock and many nieces and nephews. He is also remembered with fondness by his special friend Rose Swidinsky. He will be greatly missed by his constant companion and "Pal" Mickey. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie (1969), loving second wife Ella (1996), brother John, and brother-in-law Michael Stephanishyn. Michael was born to Steven and Daisy Baydak on July 20, 1926 in Mears, MB. Michael spent many years farming in the Vista district, a place that remained dear to his heart his entire life. In June of 1949 Michael married Marie Mychasiw in Olba, MB. They continued to farm and raise their family in the Vista area until August of 1968, when Michael and Marie moved their family to Winnipeg. Michael resided in the St. James area for the next 33 years where he also met and married his second wife Ella in 1984. He was employed by the St. James Assiniboia School Division for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988. His strong work ethic will always be an inspiration to those who knew him well. Dad had a zest for life that was matched by few others. His great love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing and enjoyment of hunting. His greatest joy was sharing these interests with family and friends, and he was most content when the time was spent with his children. Bowling, curling and long walks with his buddy Mickey were also favourite pastimes. Dad gained an avid interest in gardening during the many years he farmed. He was a wonderful cook and put a lot of his energies into canning and preparing many family meals. He could dance the feet off partners many years his junior, and was most happy when kicking up his heels to a lively polka or listening to a nice waltz. Michael was an active member of St. Basils Church, and could often be found helping out in the church basement making perogies. He was a tireless volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society and spent many hours transporting patients to and from their treatments. With his giving nature, Michael always made himself available to anyone needing a hand. Prayers will be sung on Wednesday, April 11 at 8:15 p.m. in St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street. Divine liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, April 12 at 9:30 a.m., also in the church with Rev. Father Isadore Dziadyk, OSBM presiding. A private family interment will follow in Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Rossburn, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michaels name to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. "We love you, Pops. You will always be in our hearts." WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
